satire is a genre (of literature, film etc). satire is used to exaggerate the flaws of something for comedic effect and importantly to criticise it.
A modest proposal by Jonathan Swift is an example of satire. It's not meant to be taken seriously, it's meant to make you think about the mistreatment of the Irish.
Irony is when something happens that is the opposite of what's expected. It's often misunderstood. It's often hard to define exactly. According to Wikipedia: Although initially synonymous with lying, inPlato's dialogueseironeiacame to acquire a new sense of "an intended simulation which the audience or hearer was meant to recognise".More simply put, it came to acquire the general definition, "the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect". There's often a twist involved. I'm actually afraid to give an example for fear I myself might misuse the word. Ironic isn't it? (maybe)
Sarcasm is all in the tone of one's voice. You say the opposite of what you mean in a sarcastic manner in order to show your anger and frustration. "Well that was two hours well spent" after waiting at the dentist's and being told your appointment was cancelled.
