An Easy Salty Dog Drink

You asked, so I delivered! A couple weeks ago, I did a poll on Instagram to see what kind of recipes you wanted next on JHE. For the co*cktail section you said you wanted something with either Vodka, Rum or Tequila … well Vodka it is!

One of my close friends got me hooked on Vodka and grapefruit, so that’s what this co*cktail is all about.

And y’all, let me tell you. It’s a good one!

What is a Salty Dog Drink?

A salty dog is a co*cktail made with gin or vodka and grapefruit juice. It is typically served over ice with a salted glass rim.

My version has a little twist on a classic salty dog. I add in fresh lime juice and grapefruit la croix or sparkling water for a little bubbly. You’ll love it, it almost doesn’t even taste like a drink. It’s that smooth. (a.k.a. dangerous)

  • a co*cktail shaker
  • a measuring jigger, used to measure ounces for co*cktails (I love the one with a handle, makes it easier to pour the liquid into the co*cktail shaker)
  • a high ball glass & ice
  • coarse sea salt
  • vodka
  • grapefruit juice
  • lime juice
  • grapefruit sparkling water

I think one of my favorite things about this drink, besides the fact that you only need 4 ingredients is how easy it is to make. There is no sugar or simple syrup, it’s just straight up easy no fuss ingredients. But the combo of them all is incredibly addicting. It’s so light and refreshing which is perfect as we head into the summer.

How to Make a Salty Dog co*cktail:

  1. Salt the rim of two glasses.
  2. To a co*cktail shaker add fresh grapefruit juice, vodka (or gin) and lime juice. Put the top on and shake.
  3. Fill cups with ice and evenly pour co*cktail over ice. Top with grapefruit la croix.

Can I Make a Salty Dog in a Pitcher?

Yes. To make this salty dog recipe in a pitcher, which would give you 10 co*cktails, use the following measurements.

  1. 334cups of grapefruit juice
  2. 334cups of grapefruit la croix
  3. 2 cups of vodka
  4. 623ounces of lime juice

Add all ingredients to a pitcher, stir and serve over ice.

I guarantee this will be a show stopper for you this summer. It’s a great co*cktail to have poolside, because it won’t be heavy on your stomach. It kinda reminds me of a mojito from the refreshing and light perspective.

So make this co*cktail for two or throw it in a pitcher for a party, but whatever you decide to do just make it. It will definitely quench your thirst and you’ll fall in love with the freshness of it.

Cheers to Friday friends!
